Jewel Cave National Monument With over 200 miles of mapped and surveyed passages, this treasured resource is one of the longest caves in the world. See sparkling calcite crystals, strands of gypsum, delicate frostwork, and other rare formations that decorate the cave’s chambers. Wind Cave National Park Discover two worlds at Wind Cave National Park – 167 miles of known underground passages and 33,971 acres of above-ground wilderness. Named for barometric winds at its entrance, Wind Cave is adorned with boxwork – a unique formation rarely found elsewhere. In the summer, rangers present evening campfire programs at Elk Mountain Campground. Tours are also available year-round. Minuteman Missile National Historic Site WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK Understand the intricacies of the Cold War at Minuteman Missile National Historic Site. The park consists of three sites once part of a Minuteman Missile field: Launch Control Facility Delta-01 with its corresponding underground Launch Control Center, Delta-09 Launch Facility (Missile Silo), and the Visitor Center. Devils Tower National Monument Rising 1,267 feet above the picturesque Belle Fourche River Valley, Devils Tower National Monument is a stunning geological oddity of epic proportions. Also known as Bear Lodge, the tower is sacred to many Native American tribes. Enjoy the monument on the ground, or by climbing with a special permit in accordance with National Park Service regulations. MINUTEMAN MISSILE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE Buffalo Gap National Grassland Rolling prairie, woodland creeks, and the Badlands characterize the vast 600,000 acres of Buffalo Gap National Grassland. Known for its expansive ecosystem of diverse vegetation and wildlife, the area offers peace, open space, and a myriad of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. The National Grasslands Visitor Center in Wall is full of amazing displays, and helpful staff members are on-site to provide maps, recreation tips, and educational resources. While exploring, visitors can learn about local wildlife, including the black-footed ferret, and children can earn their Junior Ranger badges.
