Inside New Orleans GETTING AROUND Perhaps the toughest part of navigating New Orleans isn’t deciding how to get around, but where to go once you’re there! The city has dozens of options for getting to wherever you want to be. Exploring the French Quarter and beyond Measuring less than a mile wide, the French Quarter is easily covered by foot. Should you prefer riding to walking, pedicab companies operate throughout the neighborhood. Mule-drawn carriages are another option, and to see the Quarter from another perspective, ride the Algiers/ Canal Street Ferry to historic Algiers Point, where a bicycle and walking path on the levee overlooks the river. Other bike-friendly parks include the Lafitte Greenway and Crescent Park . Magazine Street, a six-mile-long shopping and dining paradise that is on the No. 11 bus route. Bike, drive or take a taxi beneath the oak trees lining Esplanade Avenue, or take the Canal Street streetcar to the park. Once there, you can rent kayaks , paddleboards , bikes and paddleboats . ©Royal Carriages Shopping, dining, nightlife and wildlife in the Garden Beyond the District and Uptown city limits For a mere $1.25, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line goes past historic homes in the upscale Garden District. An insider’s tip: bring exact change for your streetcar conductor. ©Tim Mueller Beyond the Garden District is Uptown, home to the Audubon Zoo and the dining and entertainment hubs of Oak Street and Maple Street. All are also easily reachable via rideshare services including Uber and Lyft, and by taxi or car . Another can’t-miss Garden District and Uptown attraction is Plantation tours are among Louisiana’s top attractions, and many are within an hour’s drive of New Orleans.
