Perhaps the toughest part of navigating New Orleans isn’t deciding how to get around, but where to go once you’re there! The city has dozens of options for getting to wherever you want to be. Exploring the French Quarter and beyond Measuring less than a mile wide, the French Quarter is easily covered by foot. Should you prefer riding to walking, pedicab companies operate throughout the neighborhood. Mule-drawn carriages are another option, and to see the Quarter from another perspective, ride the Algiers/ Canal Street Ferry to historic Algiers Point, where a bicycle and walking path on the levee overlooks the river. An insider’s tip: bring exact change for your streetcar conductor. Beyond the Garden District is Uptown, home to the Audubon Zoo and the dining and entertainment hubs of Oak Street and Maple Street. Bike, drive or take a taxi beneath the oak trees lining Esplanade Avenue, or take the Canal Street streetcar to the park. Once there, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, bikes and paddleboats. ©Crescent City Bike Tours Beyond the city limits Plantation tours are among Louisiana’s top attractions, and many are within an hour’s drive of New Orleans. Numerous tour operators will pick you up from your hotel for your plantation tour (many also offer swamp tour options). ©Algiers Ferry Airport options Whether you’re coming to town or headed home, you’ll find many rental car and limo companies to get you to and from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
