HOCKEY Hockey lovers can take in the nonstop action of the Tampa Bay Lightning, two-time NHL Stanley Cup winners since 2020, at Benchmark International Arena in downtown Tampa. You can either drive over the Howard Frankland Bridge or take the Cross Bay Ferry from downtown St. Pete across the bay and back again after the game wraps. SOCCER If you’re a soccer fan, plan on attending a fast-paced Tampa Bay Rowdies game at the scenic 7,500-seat Al Lang Stadium on the downtown St. Pete bay-front, or head over to the downtown Tampa area to check out the USL Super League’s Tampa Bay Sun Football Club, Tampa Bay’s first professional women’s soccer team. RACING Let’s shift gears (literally) to the annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which brings powerful IndyCars roaring through closed streets along the St. Pete waterfront every March. St. Pete-Clearwater is the spring training headquarters of two MLB teams, giving you an exciting chance to watch some of the game’s superstars and promising newcomers in action. Catch a Philadelphia Phillies game at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater or head over to TD Ballpark in Dunedin to see the Toronto Blue Jays play in their southern home. The New York Yankees (Tampa), FOOTBALL If American football is more your speed, take a brief drive over to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa to watch the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers play. The stadium also hosts two college bowl games each year: the Gasparilla Bowl in December and the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Eve. GOLF The PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship is held at the renowned Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor each spring, bringing with it some of the world’s top golfers and thousands of spectators.
