In central Delaware, visit First State Heritage Park on The Green in Dover. Just a short drive from downtown Dover, visitors can tour the home of one of Delaware’s Founding Fathers at the John Dickinson Plantation , where stories are shared of the tenant farmers, indentured servants, and free and enslaved Black men, women, and children who lived, labored, and died on the plantation. In southern Delaware, explore Delaware’s Dutch heritage and the founding of one of the oldest towns in the state with a visit to the Zwaanendael Museum and the Lewes Historical Society . After your visit to Lewes, head west to the town of Millsboro to explore Delaware’s only Native American museum, the Nanticoke Indian Museum . The museum’s displays include thousands of arrowheads, pottery, axe hammers, and other objects, all of which are homemade and many of which have been passed down from Elders in the Nanticoke community.
