Mountain Biking So celebrated are Virginia’s mountain biking trails that three areas — as many as any other state — have been designated as Ride Centers by the International Mountain Bicycling Association. From the diverse terrain at Carvins Cove to the well-maintained routes at Pocahontas State Park, cyclists can put their skills to the test. Carvins Cove Natural Reserve , part of the Silver-Level Blue Ridge Ride Center, offers more than 60 miles of mountain biking trails catering to all skill levels. This 12,700-acre park features scenic forests, lush meadows, and a 630-acre reservoir. Riders can take on easy loops like the Bennett Springs Trail or tackle more challenging routes such as “Rattlin’ Run” and “Jacob’s Drop.” Massanutten’s Western Slope in the Shenandoah Valley boasts over 30 miles of rugged mountain bike trails across 800 acres. Technical rocky sections like “The Puzzler” and “2,000 Hours” reward riders with breathtaking views from Massanutten Mountain. Anchored by Harrisonburg, this region of the central Shenandoah Valley was Virginia’s first IMBA Ride Center, earning Bronze-Level designation. Just 20 miles from the Bronze-Level Richmond Ride Center, Pocahontas State Park has more than 44 miles of mountain bike trails, including flow, singletrack, and adaptive-friendly routes. The Swift Creek system features bermed trails and a pump track, as well as 7 miles of adaptive trails for hand trikes. The Lakeview and Morgan Mountain trails allow for scenic, technical riding. Dragon’s Tooth VIRGINIA’S TRIPLE CROWN Dragon’s Tooth , McAfee Knob , and Tinker Cliffs make up Virginia’s legendary Triple Crown, a trifecta of ‘gram-worthy hikes. Individually, each hike awes with jaw-dropping views across the Roanoke Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains.
