“ King Neptune ” ( Paul DiPasquale ) Meet King Neptune It’s hard to miss the iconic King Neptune statue poised high on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Standing 34 feet tall on the beach at 31st Street and Atlantic Avenue, this giant bronze sea god stands watch over the ocean at the gateway to Neptune Park. Commissioned by the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival as a tribute to the city’s deep ties to the ocean, and constructed entirely through private contributions, the statue was created by Virginia-based artist Paul DiPasquale and unveiled in September 2005 during the Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend. Portrayed rising from the waves with a trident in hand and surrounded by sea creatures, the statue has been a beloved beachside landmark and favorite photo opp ever since.
