Pilot Butte LACE UP FOR HIKING ADVENTURES Fill up your water bottle, lace up your hiking boots and get ready to uncover verdant riversides, rugged cliffs and sunbaked desert along this region’s diverse and stunning trails. FLAMING GORGE COUNTRY TRAILS WHITE MOUNTAIN PETROGLYPHS At White Mountain, etched sandstone cliffs reveal centuries-old carvings. The Plains and Great Basin Native Americans created intricate designs on these 300-foot walls, depicting scenes from their lives up to a thousand years ago. A short hike to the Upper Wasatch formation reveals this rare, open-air gallery — a quiet space to reflect on the stories left by Wyoming’s earliest-known inhabitants. Just south of Rock Springs and Green River, Flaming Gorge Reservoir and its surrounding plateaus offer ample opportunities to hike and investigate the arid terrain. Wander through sagebrush-peppered desert and soaring rock mesas. KILLPECKER SAND DUNES No path is needed when you have acres upon acres of soft sand to meander. Hiking the Killpecker Sand Dunes — one of the world’s largest active sand-dune fields — can range from easy to hard, with some mounds reaching over 100 feet tall. Soak in some sunshine along the river, passing through parks and quiet neighborhoods by foot or bike. SEEDSKADEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE’S FLICKER TRAIL Beginning at the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge headquarters, the 2-mile Flicker Trail loops along the Green River through wetlands and cottonwood forests, leading you to prime moose-spotting and birding areas.
