FLAMING GORGE SCENIC BYWAY ROUTE Take the scenic route and roam the Flaming Gorge Scenic Byway — one of only 37 designated All-American Roads in the nation. Starting and ending in Rock Springs, this journey follows highways 191 and 530 and circles the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area that includes a 91-mile-long reservoir. It’s the perfect way to see the beauty of the region in just a few hours. Along the way, catch glimpses of wildlife, capture family memories at picturesque pit stops and learn about the area’s pioneer-and outlaw-filled past. Fun Fact: The byway passes over part of the historical Overland Trail and close to Browns Park Recreation Area. Originally known as Brown’s Hole, it was a popular hideout for notorious bandits of the day like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. 16
