HEALTH FACILITIES & SAFETY SUSTAINABILITY As a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives, the convention center implements a color-coded recycling and waste minimization program, water effi ciency, green product purchasing and more. All paper products are made from 100 percent recycled fi ber, ECOLOGO Certifi ed and compostable. The building boasts a long list of energy-reducing features, from low-emission gas to computerized HVAC systems. Partnerships with many local sustainable businesses include DC Central Kitchen, Capital Area Food Bank and the District of Columbia Department of Public Works to recycle pallets left by decorators. The center is Metro accessible (Green and Yellow lines) with a dedicated Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center stop immediately walkable to Shaw’s booming restaurant scene and downtown museums and nightlife, as well as the National Mall. HEALTH AND SAFETY FIRST The convention center demonstrates ongoing dedication to safety protocols and cleaning measures. It’s the fi rst convention center in the world to earn the WELL Health-Safety Rating (2022) and the fi rst in the northeast U.S. to achieve the GBAC STAR accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council. It was also the fi rst center in the United States to implement BIOPROTECT™ by SurfaceGuard, a NASA developed technology designed to kill COVID-19 and other germs.
