WALTER E. WASHINGTON IMPRESSIVE DESIGN The ultra-modern convention center features soaring staircases, towering glass walls and a public art collection that is the largest of its kind in the city outside of a museum. The 130+ pieces by 93 diff erent artists, both local and international, span sculpture, photography and paintings. A multi-phase interior design upgrade enhanced the public lounge areas with new seating and furniture that allows for more networking. The center earned a Gold Stella Award from Northstar Meetings Group as the best convention center in the Northeast region in 2021. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS A new “Downtown Dining District” opened as part of a $16 million food and beverage investment. The former food court renovation opened the more than 17,000-square-foot space up with direct entry from the grand lobby and views to the exhibit halls below. The 400-person seating capacity and updates make the area more fl exible for retail and catering functions, including a tasting room, restaurant, bar and induction kitchen. LOCAL FLAVOR Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shop Made in DC aim to bring authentic experiences to attendees. Ben’s Chili Bowl, renowned for its famous “half-smoke” chili dog, is a city landmark that began in 1958 on Washington, DC’s celebrated U Street NW.
