WORLD WAR I MEMORIAL The two-year-old memorial includes the cascading Peace Fountain, engraved tributes to World War I campaigns and battles and in-depth exhibits on the global confl ict. 1 NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART Through East and West buildings, the museum exhibits work from numerous countries and historical eras, including temporary displays that highlight distinctive artists, from Renaissance masters to modern-day marvels. VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL 4 Three parts make the site iconic: the Three Soldiers statue, the Vietnam Women’s Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, also known as The Wall That Heals, which features 58,000 names. 3 WASHINGTON.ORG U.S. NATIONAL ARBORETUM The 446-acre property features the legendary U.S. Capitol Columns, the popular National Bonsai & Penjing Museum (home to a tree that survived Hiroshima) and blooming cherry blossoms in the spring. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE The fi ve-fl oor museum covers the prevailing tragedies of slavery, the accomplishments of the ongoing struggle for civil rights and the tremendous courage, perseverance and bravery of Black icons and trailblazers. 13
