Lookout Mountain looms above town and offers you panoramic views in every direction. Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre Morning See famous frontier scout and showman Buffalo Bill Cody’s story come to life. He was buried at Lookout Mountain in 1917. Learn more about him at a museum near the gravesite. The drive to the gravesite begins in historic downtown Golden on the electric-vehicle-friendly Lariat Loop scenic byway. The Colorado Railroad Museum has a half-mile circle of track on which they run steam locomotives and the famous Galloping Goose, a 1928 Pierce-Arrow limousine put on train wheels with a bus welded to the back. And the Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum is the first and only in the nation dedicated to mountaineering history. Bike or hike the paved Clear Creek Trail, which follows the creek from the mountains through Golden to Denver; or tube and kayak a human-made whitewater course with rapids and gentle falls. The free, creekside Golden History Museum has 1800s cabins, a one-room schoolhouse and items from eras past. Or savor the craft-beer scene at the town’s numerous local breweries. While many don’t serve food, you can bring your own snacks in or order from the food trucks parked outside. Find something for everyone at Tributary Food Hall or The Golden Mill. Delights range from charcuterie and gelato to a self-pour tap wall stocked with Colorado beers, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Afternoon South Table Mountain and North Table Mountain are landmark mesas rising above town with commanding views of the area. Triceratops Trail, an easy path to dinosaur fossils, is popular with families. Of course, you’ll stop into Golden’s highest-profile attraction: Coors Brewery. Marvel at a room of giant copper kettles and watch thousands of cans and bottles whirl around you. Evening Catch a concert at (or just hike around) Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre in nearby Morrison.
