Start at Winter Park Resort, a long-running ski resort that doubles as a summer playground. Ride a gondola to the mountaintop to mountain bike down ramps, jumps and exciting terrain. There’s also an alpine slide, a climbing wall, mini golf, a ropes course, guided hikes and more. Head downtown for places to wet your whistle and stroll the art trail. Hop on the 10-mile Fraser River Trail via foot, bike or cross-country skis. The trail ends at Headwaters River Journey, where exhibits explore the wonders of conservation and preservation. Or book an aerial-park outing with Winter Park Adventure Quest in Fraser. Meanwhile, Snow Mountain Ranch has a grin-inducing summer tubing hill and other family activities. A handful of breweries and lunch spots make Fraser an excellent stop for a break, including Vicious Cycle Brewing 144 1-800-COLORADO Company, whose sours, lagers and IPAs will brighten up any day. The town is also a perfectly located home base for outdoor adventure (and is known for its lift-served winter snow-tubing hill). In laid-back Grand Lake, note the town’s Western character in historical boardwalks and hitching posts. As Colorado’s deepest and largest natural lake, Grand Lake itself attracts fun-seekers looking to boat, ride the Rocky Mountain Amphicar, water ski, SUP, fish, sail or relax on the beach. As the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake has quiet, best-kept-secret vibes and is an excellent spot for viewing moose and other wildlife year-round.
