BADLANDS LOOP STATE SCENIC BYWAY Badlands Loop State Scenic Byway (SD 240) passes through the amazing buttes, cliffs and multicolored spires of Badlands National Park. The 31-mile stretch is one of the most recognized in the country. Extend your ride by taking Hwy 44 through the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. See the map on Page 32. SPEARFISH CANYON SCENIC BYWAY This 22-mile journey begins at Exit 10 or Exit 14 off I-90 in Spearfish and connects to the mouth of the canyon at Spearfish Canyon Country Club. From the other end, turn north at Cheyenne Crossing outside of Lead, at the intersection of Hwy 85. From there, travel 20 miles through some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ll find in the Black Hills. BOULDER CANYON The high-walled valley road of U.S. Hwy 14A, between Sturgis and Deadwood, provides a short, yet sweet 12-mile ride. Take this relaxing interlude before an exciting night of Deadwood gaming and dining. Or, catch I-90 at Exit 30 for a quick jaunt back to your home base. PETER NORBECK SCENIC BYWAY Needles Highway (SD 87), Iron Mountain Road (US 16A), Horse Thief Lake Road (SD 244) and Sylvan Lake Road (SD 89) make up the oval-shaped route through the most rugged real estate in the Black Hills. The route includes six picture-perfect tunnels, hairpin curves, “pigtail” bridges, and the wildlife ranges of Norbeck Wildlife Preserve, Black Elk National Wilderness Area and Custer State Park. You’ll encounter steep grades, sharp curves and tunnels with height and width restrictions.
