TRANSPORTATION PD63 STOP SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT AMENITIES IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THAT A CITY LIKE SAN FRANCISCO WOULD HAVE AN AIRPORT WITH NEARLY AS MANY OPTIONS FOR DINING AND CULTURE AS THE CITY ITSELF. FRESH SEAFOOD WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR FLIGHT? CHECK. AN ART MUSEUM? YUP. FREE WI-FI? OF COURSE! HERE ARE A FEW GREAT REASONS WHY SFO DESERVES TO BE YOUR FAVORITE AIRPORT. GETTING TO AND FROM SFO LOCAL DINING It would take months or even years to sample all the amazing restaurants in San Francisco, but if you miss a particular local institution during your visit, you might be able to try it at the airport. Sample fresh local seafood or mini hot dogs at Gott’s Roadside, enjoy a scoop of organic ice cream at Three Twins Ice Cream, order a fresh-brewed cup of java at Roasting Plant Coffee or find artisanal foods at the Napa Farms Market. The new Manufactory Food Hall in the International Terminal also offers a wide range of “only in San Francisco” dining experiences. • Public Transit: Take SFO’s free AirTrain from any terminal to the Garage G/ BART Station stop. A one-way BART ticket to downtown San Francisco costs $9.65 or $19.30 for a round trip (RT Blue Ticket), or $9.15 and $18.30 (RT), plus a $3 surcharge for a new Clipper card. Either ticket can be purchased in the station at the designated ticket machines. Trains depart every 15-20 minutes. SFO BART tickets can also be purchased online for inbound passengers only. You can buy round trip Blue Tickets to San Francisco, Oakland or Berkeley for only $21. This ticket includes enough fare ($1.70) to begin a one-way ride to any station in San Francisco, but will require paying $.80 at the end of the ride to exit the station. You can upgrade the ticket at any BART Ticket Machine for a round trip to East Bay BART destinations or trips to another BART station. Rental cars agencies are conveniently located on site. Rental operators offer a large fleet of eco-friendly options. Taxis depart from designated taxi zones located at the roadway center islands, on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals. Uniformed taxi coordinators are stationed at the taxi zones from 7 a.m. – 1 a.m. to assist passengers with questions or concerns. The cost is usually $46-$66 to downtown San Francisco including a $4.50 airport surcharge. Door-to-Door Vans provide service between SFO and specified locations in shared vans. Depending on the number of passengers, door-to-door vans may make multiple stops. Van service is available on a walk-up basis, but passengers should make reservations for service after 11 p.m. Pickup is on the Departures/Ticketing Level from the roadway center island at all terminals. Advance reservations are required to the airport. Airporters are privately operated scheduled buses that provide service between SFO and Bay Area cities outside of San Francisco. They depart from the Center Island transportation zones on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of the International Terminal and Domestic Terminals 2 and 3. Limousines must be prearranged. However, at the airport, visitors can contact operators at free phones located at the Lodging, Transportation and Attraction Boards on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level. Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) provide prearranged transportation between SFO and passenger-specified locations, TNCs include Lyft and Uber. Passengers arrange service online, typically using a smartphone app. Drivers use their personal, non-commercial vehicles. TNCs pick up passengers on the roof of the central garage for the domestic terminals and the Departures/ Ticketing level of the international terminal. Fares vary. FINE ART San Francisco International Airport is the first in the country to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. If you’ve got some time on your hands waiting for your flight to depart, check out some of the exhibits scattered throughout the airport. Photography, sculpture and other art exhibits are loaned to the SFO Museum from other museums and private collections, supplementing the collection of aviation-related materials found in the Aviation Museum and Library housed at the airport (flysfo.com/museum). • • RELAXATION Let’s face it: travel can be stressful.
