Made from pink granite, the 30-foot statue complements the nearby cherry blossoms in spring. Admission is free, and docent-led tours are available daily. NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART’S EAST BUILDING During a three-year renovation, the museum's East Building added two sky-lit tower galleries, a rooftop terrace with a 15-foot-tall sculpture of a blue rooster by artist Katharina Fritsche and over 500 works of art, including pieces by Alexander Calder, Mark Rothko and Pablo Picasso. @adayinthelalz ARTHUR M. SACKLER GALLERY This Smithsonian museum showcases 6,000 years of Asian and Near Eastern art with a permanent collection that includes ancient Iranian vessels and Buddhist statues. Its sister museum, the Freer Gallery of Art, will re-open in fall 2017, after a renovation. THE SMITHSONIAN CASTLE @freersackler @midtowncoffee The Smithsonian Castle’s Victorian arches and dark woodwork suggest a bygone era, but the first Smithsonian building in the District holds a modern visitor center with interactive 3D maps pinpointing and detailing the 17 DC-area Smithsonian Institution properties.
