THEME PARKS Moder Ma i AT MAGIC KINGDOM PARK ® By Amy Nance A funny thing happens when you ask your kids if they want to go to Walt Disney World ® Resortʼs Magic Kingdom ® Park : No matter how old they are (in this case, eight and ten), what day of the week it is, or how logistically impossible it is to head out, they exclaim, “Yes! Tomorrow?!” While we couldn’t bounce to Tomorrowland the next day, we set off three weeks later, a gang of four equipped with ponchos and FastPasses. On the drive, I told the kids about the time my parents took me on a backstage tour of Walt Disney World® Resortʼs Magic Kingdom® Park, where I learned about the talented creative teams that design and craft the costumes and visual details. The kids were about to see these for themselves and I wanted them to take it all in. Sure enough, they took notice and raved wherever we went. We arrived early, boarded the monorail to the park and headed straight to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Fantasyland , a new-ish roller coaster. With the fond nostalgia of a near-tween, my daughter Willa pointed out every storybook scene we passed, but couldn't stifle a scream when we hit the last drop. At nearby Peter Pan’s Flight , the kids vied for their favorite color pirate ship to take to Never Land . As we floated over Captain Hook, ©Disney 12 Kissimmee Destination Magazine 2018
