History Buffs The Oregon Trail cuts clear across Nebraska, with Scotts Bluff National Monument acting as a clear landmark to early pioneers. With striking views of the monument, the Legacy of the Plains Museum features an impressive collection of pioneer artifacts as well as a working farm. In Minden, Harold Warp Pioneer Village boasts a collection of more than 50,000 authentic Americana items that tell the story of how America grew. A giant arch spanning Interstate 80 in Kearney, The Archway was designed with life-like displays and dioramas (some designed by a Walt Disney team) telling the stories of Nebraska’s past. Children’s museums are a great place for young children to learn and have fun doing it. Nebraska has six of them spread out across the state in York, Kearney, North Platte, Hastings, Lincoln and Omaha. For MUST-DO EVENT FOR HISTORY BUFFS: In the heart of summer, for more than 150 years, the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska has hosted its annual Pow the older set, the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum is an amazing collection and display of military aircraft and spacecraft restored by staff and volunteers. People of all ages enjoy the Hastings Museum , featuring a 65-foot-wide 3D theater, planetarium, animal displays and even an exhibit on how Kool-Aid, invented in Hastings, become a success.
