Animal Lovers Explore the world’s largest indoor desert, meet rescued bears and discover battling rhino fossils as you embrace your animal instincts. For any animal-loving family, the first stop is Nebraska’s top attraction, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium . Here you’ll find the the largest aquarium inside a zoo, as well as North America’s largest indoor rainforest. In the state capital, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo is home to 350 animals, including penguins, red pandas and bald eagles. On the far west side of the state in Gering, Riverside Discovery Center has big cats, primates, a petting zoo and a splash-pad playground perfect for the little ones. In Royal, a different kind of animal experience awaits. At Ashfall Fossil Beds , an active paleontology dig in volcanic ash with prehistoric animal skeletons will fascinate the budding scientists in the family. Register in advance and dig for fossils first-hand.
