FIND SOLITUDE ON THE SHORES OF PHELPS LAKE Picnic or fish (Yellowstone National Park fishing permit required) at tranquil Phelps Lake at Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve, once a private refuge for the Rockefeller family. The preserve is also a hangout for some of the park’s most famous mammals, including moose, bears and deer. Hike the eight-mile-long trail network for the best chances to see them. GET OUT ON THE WATER WY AM I HERE? While Jacob Frank, a photographer and Yellowstone National Park’s audiovisual production specialist, has photographed about 30 national parks (and has visited more than 70), he has a special connection to Grand Teton. “The first national park that I ever worked at was Grand Teton, so it has sentimental value,” he says. “The Tetons is actually where I got my first camera — it’s why I got into photography.” Opt for a guided boat tour of Jenny Lake for incredible photo ops and fascinating insight on the park’s history, geology, and flora and fauna. The boats also transport hikers to the popular Jenny Lake Trail, which winds through conifer forests to Hidden Falls in Cascade Canyon.
