CENTRAL MARYLAND Light City Baltimore Hang Out with Baa, Baa Black and White Sheep The Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival in West Friendship at the Howard County Fairgrounds is the largest sheep and wool show in the country. The early May event features something interesting, exciting, and even unexpected at every turn. See fiber arts demonstrations, a Maryland Make It with Wool fashion show, lamb shearing, wool spinning, weaving, working sheep dogs, and sheep and goats of all breeds. In its third year, the nine-day event takes place in late March through early April. Old Ellicott City Ellicott City in Howard County, an easy drive from Baltimore, was founded in 1772 and is filled with brilliant restaurants, hand-crafted beer, and delightful shops and boutiques. The town was devastated in a July 2016 storm that ravaged the historic Main Street business district. The invincible town was restored and rebuilt, and once again welcomes you. Start at the Welcome Center in the old post office on Upper Main Street for a selection of brochures and exhibits about the town and the area. Then, explore the past at the B&O Railroad Station Museum, the Ellicott City Colored School, the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, Firehouse Museum and Thomas Isaac Log Cabin (all are open April through November on weekends from 1 to 4 p.m.).
