A Place for All Seasons A bout 20,000 years ago, the last in a series of glaciers moved across North America. As the glacier entered South Dakota from the northeast, it scoured and scraped the land leveling high places, filling in low areas, smoothing some sur-faces and gouging others. The result is what is now known as South Dakota’s Glacial Lakes. Webster is the center of the Glacial Lakes area, with more natural lakes than any other count y in South Dakota.
