BLACK HILLS & BADLANDS REGION Wall Drug Store WALL THE WINDOW TO THE WEST Perched high on the edge of sunburned cliffs, Wall takes its name from the rugged ramparts that form the north rim of South Dakota’s Badlands. It is a “gateway” community to Badlands National Park, offering year-round amenities. Nestled among the beautiful backdrop of expansive plains and breathtaking views of the Badlands, the town of Wall offers all the expected and plenty of the unexpected. From casual dining at great restaurants to comfortable campgrounds, bed & breakfasts, and motels, you can be certain to enjoy the view through Wall’s “Window to the West.” You will know when you’ve reached the city limits when you spot the life-size Brontosaurus dinosaur near I-90, exit 110. Expect a hearty welcome and small-town friendliness when you visit Wall. With a year-round population of just over 800, the population swells to accommodate its two million annual visitors. “Wall Celebration” is held in July with activities that in-clude a parade, rodeo, dances and more. The “Wall in the Fall” is a fun family festival held in early October that celebrates the changing of seasons. ATTRACTIONS Main Street features the National Grasslands Visitor Center , a great source for rock-hounding maps and the various agriculture land uses in the area, as well as a variety of restaurants, gift shops, and of course the #1 Roadside Attraction in America: Wall Drug Store . Wall Drug Store has been entertaining and educating the traveling public since 1931. Since then, it has evolved into a 76,000 square foot wonderland of free attrac-tions. It features a Frontier Town with unique western shopping, a restaurant that seats 520 people and dis-plays a world-class collection of illustration and western art, a backyard with a choreographed splash park, pic-ture props, 1,500 historical photographs, panning and EVENTS Anytime of year is a good time to visit Wall. The Wall Regional High School Rodeo is held in June; other rodeo activities are scheduled throughout the summer. The 116
