T WESTERN MARYLAND Timeless Traveling The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is stunning year-round, but the really hot ticket comes when the fall foliage bursts with color along the route. The historic steam engine runs from Cumberland to Frostburg, a perfect day trip for train-obsessed kids (and adults), or nature lovers of any age. Engineers and conductors are happy to share their knowledge of this cherished old train. The scenic railroad recently added dining cars GARRETT to the line, perfect for relaxing and rolling through the stunning landscape. the “Yough” was designated a scenic and wild river, preserving the corridor around it in its natural state. Some parts, such as the stretch leading to Friendsville, could require an experienced river hand to show the way; several area guide companies lead excursions.
