Delaware knows its way around a crab cake, especially at Woody’s Dewey Beach. Enjoy one on a brioche roll with tartar sauce, remoulade, or cocktail sauce, or try it on a Caesar salad. Bonus points if you pair it with an Orange Crush, Delaware’s official state cocktail.
Delaware has plenty of options for local ice cream. In northern Delaware, try Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin or UDairy Creamery in Newark. In central Delaware, Fifer’s Farm Store and Kitchen makes peach and strawberry ice cream using fruit grown on the farm.
In coastal and southern Delaware, stop by Agape Creamery in Millville, Hopkins Farm Creamery in Lewes, or Vanderwende Farm Creamery in Bridgeville or Greenwood. One scoop is fine — but three is better.
Cracking open steamed blue crabs with a local beer is a classic Delaware summer experience. Two seasonal favorites are Sambo’s Tavern in Leipsic and Old Mill Crab House in Delmar. Check hours and seasonal availability before you go.
Coastal Delaware restaurants often serve local oysters harvested the same day. Visit Lewes Oyster House to try local Nancy James oysters from Rehoboth Bay — grilled, fire-roasted, raw, or featured in a seafood tower.
At The Charcoal Pit in Wilmington, you can order a “kitchen sink” sundae — an over-the-top ice cream experience that’s a Delaware icon. Open since 1956, the spot is also known for burgers and hot dogs.
With its signature swirl of sauce, Grotto Pizza is a Delaware beach tradition — and now a year-round favorite. Whether you’re on the boardwalk or grabbing takeout closer to home, the swirl always hits the spot.
From crisp lagers to craft meads, Delaware has a spirited side. Favorites include Wilmington Brew Works, Painted Stave Distilling, Big Oyster Brewery, Brimming Horn Meadery, Dewey Beer Co., and Salted Vines Vineyard and Winery.
