Delaware’s public art isn’t just something to look at — it’s something to feel. You’ll find it in unexpected corners, tucked into alleys, and out in the open, reflecting who communities are, where they’ve been, and what they value. Start in West Rehoboth, where the Legacy Mural bursts with color, heart, and history. Painted by nationally recognized artist and West Rehoboth descendant Terrance Vann, this large-scale work honors the Black families who shaped the neighborhood, from Rehoboth’s segregated past to today. The mural preserves and celebrates a history that might otherwise have been overlooked.
Next, head to Dover, where dozens of sleek metal birds appear to take flight at the Biggs Museum of American Art. Suspended mid-air, they capture a moment in motion and transform the plaza into something lively, surprising, and memorable.
Finally, visit Wilmington and look for the massive whale mural on Market Street, painted by renowned mural artist Wyland. The piece is bold and surreal, designed to stand out rather than blend in. Find Wyland’s Whaling Wall at 117 N. Market Street, Wilmington.
