Between its beaches, state parks, and biking trails, Delaware offers many outdoor activities to choose from.
Visit Wilmington’s Brandywine Park and explore the 178-acre park along the Brandywine River with plants, bridges, fountains, and pavilions. During your walk, stop at the Jasper Crane Rose Garden.
In Historic New Castle, explore Battery Park with walking, hiking, and biking trails along the Delaware River. If you’re fortunate, you may see the Kalmar Nyckel docked in the park during a stopover as it travels the Atlantic coast.
Stretching eight miles along the Delaware Bay, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge offers a 12-mile wildlife drive, accessible trails, observation towers, and excellent birding. Nearby Smyrna adds small-town charm, including the historic Smyrna Opera House, built in 1870.
Farther south in Milford, take a quiet walk along the Mispillion Riverwalk, or visit Abbott’s Mill Nature Center for a stroll through its 376-acre nature preserve.
Visit Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge for hiking, biking, fishing, birdwatching, and more. In Lewes, Mary Vessels Park is a small but scenic spot—pair your visit with an ice cream cone from nearby King’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Farther south, explore James Farm Ecological Preserve in Ocean View, a 150-acre retreat with a calm bayside beach, native plants and animals, and three miles of trails through seven distinct habitats.
