FRESH AIR + FAMILY FUN
Hikers, bikers and kayakers looking for a challenge will easily find their next adventure. Fourteen state parks are located throughout the state with many situated near lakes, rivers and the rugged Badlands. These sustainable parks are family-friendly with access to boat ramps, kayak rentals, hiking and biking trails, and campgrounds with yurts and cabins.
UNDER THE STARS
North Dakota’s vast, open landscapes and dark skies make it a prime destination for stargazing and viewing the northern lights. Far from the bright city lights, the state’s remote locations offer pristine, unpolluted skies where you can see thousands of stars twinkling above. North Dakota’s northern latitude also gives it an edge for catching a glimpse of the elusive aurora borealis, or northern lights, painting the sky in mesmerizing shades of green, purple and pink on clear nights.
LONG SUMMER DAYS
The best days are spent outdoors and you’ll have plenty of hours to enjoy time on the water at Devils Lake, Lake Sakakawea or any of more than 400 other gorgeous lakes and rivers. Soak up the sun on a pontoon or sip a drink at the water’s edge; go tubing, kayaking, or fishing for walleye, northern pike, or perch. The wide-open prairies, rolling hills and buttes make for ideal wildlife viewing. It might be worth it to have your binoculars along to see wild bison, whitetail deer, mule deer, coyotes, river otters, prairie dogs, pronghorn antelope, wild horses, elk, moose, bighorn sheep and more. Birders may be interested in the 63 wildlife refuges which are home to hundreds of different songbird species, plus flocks of migratory waterfowl.
