A growing winery and spirits scene and spectacular views of the skyline from bridge to bridge make Treasure Island a gem of a day trip.
SEE & DO
Located midway between San Francisco and Oakland, this man-made island was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1936. The Treasure Island Museum hosts free exhibits on this fascinating history. Nearby is Clipper Cove, a perfect spot for a beach picnic. (Pro tip: Stock up on supplies at the Ferry Building before departing on the short ferry ride to Treasure Island.) Meander down the Avenue of Palms and find a place to spread out at Cityside Park, a serene green space boasting a great lawn and even greater city views.
EAT & DRINK
Chow down on fish and chips, cheeseburgers and tacos at Mersea, a unique restaurant and bar housed in shipping containers. Revel in the romantic atmosphere of Aracely Cafe, whose seasonal dishes include fresh ceviches, pastas and steaming bowls of seafood bouillabaisse. Sip around the island at Treasure Island Wines and the art deco-style Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery, housed in a former Pan-Am airport terminal. Always call ahead before visiting, as most Treasure Island businesses operate on a limited basis.
