Geographic Center of the Nation
Belle Fourche, French for “Beautiful Fork”, was named after the intersection of Hay Creek, the Redwater River, and the Belle Fourche River. The community is near the Geographic Center of the Nation, which is marked by a stunning 21-foot diameter compass rose next to the Visitor Center.
