DISCOVER DAKOTA LIFEWAYS, PAST AND PRESENT AT HOĊOKATA TI

Owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) owns and operates Hoċokata Ṫi, the tribe’s cultural center and gathering space that also features a public exhibit and gift shop.
The building opened in 2019 with the mission to sustain Mdewakanton Dakota culture and enhance the public’s knowledge of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history. Hoċokata Ṫi has been widely acclaimed for its unique design, detailed exhibit, and as a model Native American cultural center. The building’s interior and exterior design elements were painstakingly chosen to reflect and represent the SMSC’s Dakota culture and customs.
Visitors to Hoċokata Ṫi can discover Dakota history when checking out the award-winning public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake. The experience provides guests with a better understanding of Mdewakanton lifeways through artifacts, audio and visual interactive elements, and educational displays. Additionally, guests can check out the gift shop for a wide variety of unique goods from Native artists and businesses that are perfect for anyone. Hoċokata Ṫi also hosts several public events throughout the year. Plan your visit at hocokatati.org.
