THE MUSEUM HOPPER
BACKWOODS MOONSHINE MUSEUM, Beattyville
Meet cast members Donnie Benton and Teresa Mays of Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” series, Season 8, at their own tribute to Kentucky’s moonshining glory days: the Backwoods Moonshine Museum. See moonshine stills, folk art and other artifacts at this official stop on Kentucky’s Moonshine Trail.
GREEN RIVER MUSEUM, Morgantown
The free-admission Green River Museum, perched high above Green River and overlooking Lock 4 at Woodbury, is the repository of historical photographs, manuscripts and other Butler County artifacts. Open on Saturdays, June–September, from 12–4 p.m.
MOREHEAD HISTORY & RAILROAD MUSEUM, Morehead
Family fun awaits at the free-admission Morehead History & Railroad Museum, with complimentary guided tours to explore artifacts from historic railroads and the infamous Rowan County Feud. Among the highlights are model train displays, a miniature radio-controlled Belle of Louisville steamboat model and a working player piano.
SEEK MUSEUM, Russellville
Look at the stories and struggles of slavery, emancipation and equality through the eyes of African American trailblazers, like journalist and civil rights activist Alice Allison Dunnigan, at the SEEK Museum. This complex of seven historical buildings is located in two National Register Districts, with exhibits and guided tours offered.
LINCOLN MUSEUM, Hodgenville
Steps from Lincoln Square at the Lincoln Museum, colorful dioramas and an assemblage of memorabilia present Abraham Lincoln’s life and times, from his early Kentucky years to the night of his assassination. The new Global Lincoln exhibit shares a glimpse into the 16th president’s worldwide appeal.
MILL SPRINGS BATTLEFIELD NATIONAL MONUMENT, Nancy
Mills Springs Battlefield National Monument offers driving/audio tours, guided battlefield walks, living history programs with artillery drill and firing demonstrations, and guided tours of the Brown-Lanier House — a home, hospital and headquarters before and after the Civil War occupied by both Confederate and Union generals.
LOUISVILLE SLUGGER MUSEUM, Louisville
A factory tour and free souvenir mini bat. The Bat Vault with legendary players’ bat models and a behind-the-scenes All-Star Experience. A batting cage and a bat hand-turning demonstration. And the world’s largest baseball bat puncturing the skyline. You’ll find all this and more at the Louisville Slugger Museum.
FLEMINGSBURG COUNTY COVERED BRIDGE MUSEUM, Flemingsburg
In the Covered Bridge Capital of Kentucky, the free-admission Flemingsburg County Covered Bridge Museum preserves the history and romance of when more than 400 of these storied structures — also known as kissing bridges — marked the early to mid-1800s Kentucky landscape.

MARY TODD LINCOLN HOUSE, Lexington
Learn about the woman who captured a future president’s eye and heart at the Mary Todd Lincoln House through family portraits, memorabilia, including Mary’s jewelry, and stories of a First Lady beset by tragedy and misunderstanding. Both self-guided tours and a guided afternoon tour are offered.
KENTUCKY BLACK TRAILBLAZERS, Bourbon, Horses & History Region
The Harlem Hellfighters recount their World War I experience. Jockey Oliver Lewis makes history as the Kentucky Derby’s first winner. Follow Kentucky Black Trailblazers to 19 story stops as their individual triumphs and tribulations unfold in this powerful augmented reality experience.
MUHAMMAD ALI CENTER, Louisville
Discover what shaped a champion. Sit ringside at the Muhammad Ali Center and watch The Greatest “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” explore interactive exhibits to contemplate his life and principles, and follow his journey to becoming a global icon.
SANDFORD DUNCAN INN, Franklin
Know the rules of the duel? Participate as a second in a duel reenactment on the site where several duels have taken place: the Sandford Duncan Inn, a former stagecoach stop built in 1819, where illustrious Texas politico Sam Houston once stayed.
APPALACHIAN TRIANGLE OF KENTUCKY, Southeastern KY
Customize your field guide and start exploring the Appalachian Triangle of Kentucky: murals and hidden-gem museums, Kentucky coal country heritage sites and mine tours, Civil War sites and local foodie delights, waterfalls and wildlands, zip lines and horseback rides, hiking trails and treetop walks.
NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM, Bowling Green
Check out lots of interactive experiences at the National Corvette Museum: designing a digital Corvette, testing out mock engine gears and electric circuits and getting behind the wheel of two Corvette racing simulators. At NCM Motorsports Park, race high-speed go-karts or drive a real Corvette on the professional 3.2-mile track.
NEWPORT AQUARIUM, Newport
Cross a rope bridge suspended over sharks at the Newport Aquarium. Go behind the scenes and the glass on a guided tour. Laugh at the antics of the penguins, pet a sea urchin and watch enchanting ethereal creatures float about in the newest exhibit, “Jellies: Go With the Flow.”
SHAKER VILLAGE OF PLEASANT HILL, Harrodsburg
Abuzz with activity, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill offers hands-on, interactive farm experiences, self-guided and staffled tours, talks and more — plus museum displays, seasonal exhibits and 30 miles of nature trails. Shop Shaker-made items, dine at The Trustees’ Table and stay overnight in a historic Shaker building.

KENTUCKY FOLK ART CENTER, Morehead
Be enchanted by the massive 1,400-piece collection of self-taught art at the Kentucky Folk Art Center, which also displays collections of fine art, photography and textiles. The artwork is arrayed in the galleries of the historic Union Grocery building, which also boasts one of the best gift shops in the region.
SPEED ART MUSEUM, Louisville
Spanning 6,000 years of “human creativity, culture and experiences” through its permanent collections, the Speed Art Museum offers free-admission Sundays, lectures, tours, workshops and other programming. The new, free Speed Art Sculpture Park is set in a garden of native plants and trees.

OWENSBORO MUSEUM OF FINE ART, Owensboro
A magnificent stained-glass collection, a gallery of treasures by artists including Pablo Picasso and Kentucky’s own Frank Duveneck, Appalachian folk art, an outdoor sculpture park and a fully equipped art studio to inspire children — find it all at the free-admission Owensboro Museum of Fine Art.
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY CULTURAL CENTER, Glasgow
Discover a charming hidden treasure at the free-admission South Central Kentucky Cultural Center — three floors of exhibitions chronicling life from early settlement to the 1960s: a full-sized log cabin, full-scale old-time general store, a 1950s replica kitchen, vintage vehicles, an antique telephone switchboard and so much more.
