Wyoming Tips for National Parks

GETTING THERE
Yellowstone Regional Airport (flyyra.com) sits 3 miles outside cody near Yellowstone National Park’s east entrance and offers service from salt Lake city, Denver and chicago. Jackson Hole Airport (jacksonholeairport.com) is about 60 miles south of Yellowstone and located inside Grand Teton National Park. car rentals and shuttle services are available from both airports.
ARRIVE EARLY (OR LATE)
start early for easier parking, quieter trails and clear waters. In peak season, daylight lasts past 9 p.m., and crowds thin after 4–5 p.m.
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PUP
Dogs aren’t allowed on trails and boardwalks, or in visitor centers, thermal areas and the water. A good rule: Pets can go anywhere cars can — roads, campgrounds, picnic areas and parking lots. Always leash your furry buddies (6 feet max) and clean up after them.
PLAN AHEAD
With 2.2 million acres in Yellowstone and 310,000 in Grand Teton, you won’t see all of the sprawling landscape in one trip. Make a must-see list and plan to return.

BE WEATHER AWARE
Temperatures vary by season and elevation. Dress in layers, stay hydrated and be prepared for anything from warm summer temperatures to snow as late as June.
AVOID THE CROWDS
Late June through late August is the parks’ peak visitation season. Visit during the shoulder season in early June and September for a quieter retreat.
GIVE OUR GEYSERS SOME SPACE
Yellowstone’s geysers aren’t for swimming and soaking. Keep your distance — steaming water is likely to be boiling hot and sometimes dangerously acidic. stick to the trails, boardwalks and designated paths.

cell service, Wi-Fi and TV are limited in Yellowstone and Grand Teton (though there’s now better service in some of Teton’s more developed areas). be ready to disconnect — and don’t be surprised if texting becomes spotty.
