Classic cocktails, eclectic eats, buzzy nightlife and outdoor adventures — Congress Avenue packs big Austin energy into a vibrant 10-block stretch in the heart of Downtown

DINING

At old-world bistro Gina’s on Congress, linger over tender pasta and rich tiramisu. Feast on brisket at Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que, smoked cowboy-style over mesquite. Local fave Tacodeli makes colorful tacos and fresh salsa with local ingredients. Effortlessly cool Swift’s Attic surprises with creative dishes like squid fries with spicy gochujang.

Upscale food hall Fareground has something for everyone — shawarma, sushi, street tacos and more. Just outside, savor a refreshing mezcal cocktail under the oaks at patio bar Ellis.

NIGHTLIFE

Three stories of entertainment await at Speakeasy, with live music, bowling and a rooftop patio. Euro-style tavern Mort Subite tempts beer lovers inside with 60+ Belgian saisons, lambics and witbiers.

Venture underground to The Elephant Room, a dim jazz club with nightly music. Hidden speakeasy Small Victory boasts classic cocktails and relaxed vibes, if you can find it.

At retro Saturn Cocktail Club, eclectic cocktails glow under neon lights. Maximalism reigns at Jupiter Supper Club, with four themed rooms, a vegan menu and luxe cocktails. Abstaining from alcohol? Booze-free Sans Bar whips up mocktails each Friday, plus music and trivia.

ATTRACTIONS

Explore modern art at The Contemporary Austin – Jones Center. At Mexic-Arte Museum, traditional and modern works by Latino artists take center stage.

Pretty in pink (granite), the Texas State Capitol impresses visitors with its grand rotunda. The Paramount Theatre (founded in 1915) and The State Theatre (opened in 1935) delight audiences with live music, comedy and film screenings in historic surroundings.

OUTDOORS

In the heart of the city, Lady Bird Lake is a kayaking hot spot. Enjoy skyline views from the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail that loops around the lake. Watch as 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from beneath the Congress Avenue Bat Bridge at dusk from spring through fall.
