CONNECT WITH THE HISTORY of North Dakota’s First Peoples, explorers like Lewis and Clark and immigrants from Norway, Sweden, Germany and Ukraine.

There are over 60 museums and historic sites in North Dakota. Visit Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site near Williston. Located by the confl uence of the Yellowstone River and Missouri River, Fort Union was the most important fur trading post on the Upper Missouri River from 1828 to 1867.

Tour frontier army forts including Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site, Abercrombie, or the reconstructed home of Lt. Col. George Custer at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park near Mandan. On-A-Slant Indian Village is also located at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, where fi ve earth lodges have been reconstructed on the site and interpretive tours offer visitors an introduction to historic Mandan culture.

Bonanzaville, just outside West Fargo, is a frontier village with 34 buildings, and provides a glimpse into the earliest settlers of our region. Explore original structures relocated here from across the region, including Fargo's fi rst house, a schoolhouse, a saloon and hotel, a church, and a fully stocked mercantile store.

In Medora, you can walk through the Chateau de Mores, a 26-room, two-story house built by Antoine de Vallombrosa, the Marquis de Mores, who named the town after his wife. The building was built in 1883 and is now a historic house museum and contains many of the original furnishings of the de Mores family.
