Demera Ethiopian Restaurant SKALAWAG PRODUCTIONS

With choices ranging from crispy chicken wings to fried whole fluke, Pilsen’s HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen helmed by husband-and-wife owners Thai and Danielle Dang celebrates Vietnamese street food in a chic setting.

Inspired by cuisine from the chef’s hometown of Guadalajara, La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant offers some of the city’s best chilaquiles and other iconic Mexican dishes.

Regional Indian flavors and ingredients, paired with modern culinary techniques, find a welcome home at the West Loop’s sophisticated ROOP Chicago.

Also in the West Loop, Korean fare takes center stage at SoJu BBQ with dishes ranging from kimchi dumplings to ribeye bulgogi, served alongside soju-centric cocktails.

Tacotlan in the Hermosa neighborhood has gone viral on social media, thanks to its deliciously cheesy quesabirria taco. The Mexican restaurant also dishes up birria grilled cheese sandwiches and burritos.

Papa’s Cache Sabroso SKALAWAG PRODUCTIONS

Step inside the elegant West Loop brick mansion that’s home to Sinhá and discover authentic Brazilian dishes served for brunch and lunch.

At Sunda New Asian, with locations in River North and Fulton Market, sample an extensive menu of dishes from Japan, China, and beyond. Standouts include Sunda’s signature sushi and nigiri, Thai noodles, creative dim sum, and a thoughtful craft sake selection.

In Wicker Park, Mama Delia celebrates traditional Spanish cuisine — think paella and tapas — made with imported regional ingredients.

Inspired by the cosmopolitan taverns of Greece, Logan Square’s Andros Taverna serves updated classic mezes, as well as grilled meats and seafood, in a lush atmosphere.

At Humboldt Park’s Papa’s Cache Sabroso, the pollo chon (marinated rotisserie chicken), jibarito (plantain sandwich), and other Puerto Rican specialties are paired with heartfelt hospitality.

Initially established to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Avondale’s Anelya, from award-winning chefs Johnny Clark and Beverly Kim, honors the country with dishes such as dumplings, potato pancakes, and house-made bread.

Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Mima’s Taste of Cuba in Irving Park specializes in Cuban comfort food ranging from empanadas and croquetas to slow-roasted pork.

At Galit in Lincoln Park, James Beard Award-winning chef Zachary Engel brings a seasonal, localized approach to the menu of Middle Eastern dishes.

Specializing in Colombian-style empanadas, arepas, and churrasco, Lakeview’s Las Tablas was one of Chicago’s first restaurants to showcase the cuisine of this South American country.

Traditional Ethiopian cuisine made with authentic ingredients is the specialty at Uptown’s Demera Ethiopian Restaurant, where the large, shareable dishes make it the perfect place for a group dinner.

Cozy Oda in Andersonville features Turkish-Georgian fusion cuisine in its wide-ranging menu that includes flaky spinachfeta borekas, crispy falafel, and lamb kebabs.

CLASSIC CHICAGO EATS

Chicago hot dog

The traditional Chicago dog is an all-beef frank nestled in a poppy seed bun and loaded with toppings that include yellow mustard, sweet relish, diced onions, tomato wedges, a pickle spear, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt — no ketchup!

Deep dish pizza

Invented in 1943 by Ike Sewell at Pizzeria Uno in River North, Chicago’s famed pie is still served there, as well as at many other pizzerias around Chicago.

Italian beef sandwich

Featured on the hit show The Bear, order yours dipped in au jus and served sweet (with peppers) or hot (topped with giardiniera).

Jibarito

This fried plantain sandwich was introduced in Humboldt Park in the 1990s and is on the menu of many Puerto Rican restaurants in Chicago.
