CUMBERLAND FALLS STATE RESORT PARK, CORBIN

The scene is set aboard Corbin’s Moonbow Mist raft ride (May- October) to the base of frothing, churning Cumberland Falls: a clear night, full moon shining bright, the roaring rush of the cascade and the spray of the falls creating a soft-focus filter.

Follow the playful artistry of 16 bronze statues gracing Henderson’s Riverfront on the self-guided Audubon Sculpture Walk. With the lazy Ohio River flowing behind them, the osprey, great horned owl, now-extinct passenger pigeon and other birds commemorate naturalist John James Audubon.

Spelunking is one way to experience caves; rappelling is another. Do a slow descent down the limestone face of Hidden River Cave — Kentucky’s only cave rappel, and what a rappel it is: 75 feet down the “noble gateway” and mere steps from Historic Downtown Horse Cave.

Zoom in on the rooftops, church steeples and colorful murals of Covington’s riverfront neighborhoods from the Memorial Overlook in Devou Park. Its spellbinding views take in the Ohio River, multiple bridges and the unhurried river traffic, like BB Riverboats’ fleet of sightseeing cruises.

CHANEY’S DAIRY BARN, BOWLING GREEN

Otherworldly scenes unfold over yonder from the observation deck at Anderson Pond in Corydon’s Sloughs Wildlife Management Area: the knobby-kneed bald cypress trees of the swamp, summertime’s showy pastels of waterlilies in bloom, the swirl of snow geese migrating north in winter.

Petals of pure sunshine — and a sea of them at that! Wade into the sunflower fields at Mayfield’s Honey Hill Farms and Franklin’s Ruby Branch Farms to capture the perfect snap of these cheerful, bright-eyed blossoms standing tall and spreading happiness across acres of farmland.

LIGHTHOUSE LANDING RESORT & MARINA, GRAND RIVERS

A private stretch of beach on Kentucky Lake. A shaded Adirondack chair. Gentle kayak excursions along the shoreline and golf cart-cruising through the community. A two-mile scenic stroll to the gazebo to catch the setting sun – it’s all waiting at Lighthouse Landing in Grand Rivers.

A bounty of fresh produce. A bushelful of farm-fun attractions. At Trunnell’s Farm Market & Experience in Utica, spring brings petals abloom in a rainbow of colors and pedals speeding ‛round the Orchard 500 track. Fall means mums, a mini-corn maze and wagon rides to the pumpkin patch.

Slip behind the historic stone walls of Woodford County’s Coolmore at Ashford Stud on a scheduled horse farm tour and stand in the presence of equine royalty. Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Classic champion American Pharoah lives and plays here among the iconic stallion barns.

Stack those scoops! At Chaney’s Dairy Barn in Bowling Green, choose from Bourbon Crunch, Nutter Udder, Fruity Pebbles and 60 other ice cream flavors — all made with milk and cream from Jersey cows and best enjoyed from the Big Chair. Then, tour the farm to meet the cows.
