Across PA, you’re never far from one the numerous lakes that supply a plethora of recreational activities.
Nestled in the verdant Allegheny Plateau, Glendale Lake at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Patton invites swimmers to glide through blue waters at Muskrat Beach. Amenities include modern bathrooms and dressing rooms, disc golf, and volleyball courts, plus a generous picnic area. Guests at the well-appointed campgrounds enjoy access to a cove-side swimming beach.
Meandering through wooded hillsides for 27 miles, Huntingdon County’s Raystown Lake places no limitations on the horsepower or size of boats zipping through its waters. Swing by the visitor center in Hesston for info, exhibits, and extraordinary views before choosing among the lake’s seven public boat launches.
Think big at the vast Pymatuning State Park, where the massive Pymatuning Reservoir enables warmwater fishers to hook walleye, muskellunge, carp, perch, bass, and other prized catches. Choose from shoreline or boat fishing from three marinas, where rentals are available. There are also several ADA-accessible fishing piers. Grab maps and info at the Jamestown park office.
The name Lake Harmony Watersports says it all, from adrenaline-charged motorized boat waterskiing, wakeboarding, and towed tubing to serene single and tandem kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Enjoy a day of relaxed paddling along the glittering waters as you take in the sights and some sunshine.

At Canoe Creek State Park in Hollidaysburg, the fun keeps going when the temperature drops. Ice skating is permitted on Canoe Lake along with two ponds — which typically freeze earlier — along the Beaver Trail on the park’s east side. Check the website for safety guidelines prior to lacing up your skates.

Choose between impeccable rooms and soothing suites or indulge in a cushy cottage at Silver Birches Resort on Lake Wallenpaupack in Hawley. At Mountain Springs Lake Resort in Reeders, rustic-chic cabins provide family-friendly digs, luxury suites offer romantic tranquility, and three-seasons lodgings run a farmhouse-to-studio-apartment gamut.

Unwind by the shoreline of Lake Erie’s peaceful Presque Isle Bay, where the casual Shoreline Bar & Grille pairs a light and airy dining room (featuring a welcoming bar) with a spacious outdoor courtyard setting.
