Beeline for the Beach on St. Simons Island

Do
Climb the St. Simons Lighthouse, built in 1872, for sweeping views of the Atlantic, and explore the museum located in the former lighthouse keeper’s Victorian-era house. Experience more local history at the World War II Home Front Museum – you’ll learn how St. Simons Coast Guard Station’s crew heroically rescued survivors from torpedoed ships. Then, hunt for more than 20 tree spirits carved into oaks that are said to honor the island’s many sailors.
Pause for Champagne sips at Two Friends’ oh-so-luxurious Bubble Bar before browsing the boutique’s best-for-poolside ensembles, like flowing maxi dresses and UVprotecting shades. Or, head to Wine, Body & Soul for islandthemed gifts, vino galore, and a porch bar offering regular openmic nights and wine slushies so good you’ll come back for more.
Ready to soak up some rays? Try Coast Guard Beach for ample parking and easy access (it even offers a wheelchair mat that reaches hard-packed sand), and Gould’s Inlet for birding and angling. Traveling with your pup? Head to Massengale Park and East Beach, where you can romp with your furry best friend with oceanside panoramas as the backdrop.
