Maryland boasts 20-plus lighthouses, each with a fascinating history and loads of Chesapeake Bay charm. Visit them for overnight stays, sail out to explore them or marvel from a distance — just make sure you see them all.
Peruse exhibits in the Annapolis Maritime Museum, then ride the waves to the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse in Maryland’s capital city.
Piney Point Lighthouse, named for the community in which it resides, offers gorgeous Bay overlooks, maritime exhibits, a boardwalk and a kayak launch for fun on the water.
Clamber up the Hooper Strait Lighthouse in St. Michaels, where you’ll also enjoy watching shipwrights at work, river cruises and the museum’s collection of historical boats.

Spend a day in Baltimore, the Chesapeake’s urban jewel, while visiting the Seven-Foot Knoll Lighthouse. Peruse artifacts, walk the decks of historical ships and stroll along the Inner Harbor.
In Lusby, pack for a nautical overnight in the restored Cove Point Lighthouse keeper’s quarters for Instagrammable views of Calvert Cliffs and a tour of the active light’s base.
Hike to Turkey Point Lighthouse in North East; the 100-foot bluff on which it sits offers spectacular Bay vistas. This storied light once served as a beacon for freedom seekers traveling north.
