Queer women are sometimes not the target audience for LGBTQ+ events, so we have highlighted a few in the city that are especially popular within the lesbian and queer-femme community. ASCENDANCE This monthly dance party is an infusion of soulful music, visual art, spiritual practices, and communal affirmation. Ascendance provides a safe and inclusive experience, welcoming all ethnic, gender, and sexual identities while centering Black and Brown cultures. Follow @ascen.dance on Instagram for more info. GRRLSPOT GrrlSpot stages large-scale takeovers of popular bars and performance venues throughout the city. Their monthly dance parties feature local queer entertainers and large, eclectic crowds. GrrlSpot’s biggest events of the year take place during Pride Weekend and the Southern Decadence festival. Follow @grrlspot on Instagram for more info. HER HAUS Her Haus provides a safe space for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. They host monthly dance parties with DJs and go-go dancers, and they often have burlesque performers. Many of the parties are themed, with additional pop-up events throughout the year like pool parties in the summer. Follow @herhaus_ on Instagram for more info. It's a must to dive into classic New Orleans cuisine, like a visit to Antoine's. For shopping, you've got to hit up Magazine Street Uptown and Royal Street in the French Quarter. And can we talk about the cocktail scene? Sip away at The Chandelier Bar or Bar Marilou for a stylish vibe. FAVORITE RESTAURANT Our city's food culture is a treasure trove of stories from the past and present, and my ultimate go-to is Gianna. It might come as a surprise since Italian cuisine isn't typically at the top of my list, but executive chef Donald Link's creations steal my heart. FAVORITE MUSEUM OR ATTRACTION The Historic New Orleans Collection is a must-visit. It's like a deep dive into the heart and soul of the city's history. And don't miss the Backstreet Cultural Museum, where you can get up close with the awe-inspiring suits of the Black Masking Indians. FAVORITE WAY TO HIT THE TOWN For me, it's all about the thrill of a burlesque or drag show. Places like the AllWays Lounge & Cabaret, Toulouse Theater, Oz, and Saturn Bar are some of the spots where the magic happens. Imagine a fusion of glitz, glamour, celebration, and pure artistry — that's what you'll find on these stages. Follow me on Instagram at @thedarlingxx.
