Mindful travel means understanding and respecting the local way of doing things. It helps us protect our way of life and perpetuate our culture for future generations. Here are a few rules to follow when visiting Alaska:

» IF YOU MUST LEAVE A TRACE, LET IT BE OF KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY. All Alaska cultures share the value of giving, so don’t be surprised if you are offered a gift!
» WE HIGHLY RESPECT OUR ELDERS & THEIR WISDOM. We ask you to offer the same respect when you see Elders publicly speaking or sharing.
» LEARN HOW OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS REFER TO THEMSELVES & THEIR TRIBAL NAME. BE CURIOUS. Open your eyes in wonder to our cultures, our way of life, and our traditions.
» IF YOU TAKE ANYTHING AWAY, we ask, as a reminder, to be a good steward of the air, earth, water, and of the animals—no matter where you travel to and no matter where you call home.
