The National Cherry Blossom Festival, scenic excursions and trails filled with new discoveries win over springtime visitors. NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL SEE THE BLOSSOMS Cherry blossom cheer soars during peak bloom of the Yoshino cherry trees that surround the Tidal Basin. You can also gaze at blossoms at Hains Point, Dumbarton Oaks and the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. MAJOR EVENTS DC’s signature springtime celebration runs from March 20 to April 16. Can’t-miss happenings include the Opening Ceremony (March 25), the Blossom Kite Festival (April 1), Petalpalooza (April 8) and the Parade presented by Events DC (April 15). SPECIAL PROGRAMS Restaurants honor the occasion through Cherry Picks with spring- and cherry-inspired dishes and deals. Blossom-themed art installations and a beautifully decorated Frederick Douglass Bridge are part of City in Bloom. BE A TRAILBLAZER ANACOSTIA RIVERWALK TRAIL Voyage through Capitol Riverfront on a 20-mile trail that runs along both sides of the Anacostia River. Spend some time at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, known for its lotus flowers and water lilies. CAPITAL CRESCENT TRAIL Trek 11 miles through a mix of Potomac River views and city scenery. Conclude the journey at Washington Harbour and grab a bite at Sequoia or Farmers Fishers Bakers. MOUNT VERNON TRAIL Bike across the Arlington Memorial Bridge on an 18-mile sojourn that can include stops at Roosevelt Island and George Washington’s Mount Vernon. AFTERNOON ADVENTURE ROCK CREEK PARK *5200 Glover Road NW Sunrise – Sunset* A nature center and a planetarium add to DC’s ultimate outdoor oasis.
