Watch pro teams and star athletes in action, or chase thrills on land and water. Adventures in Loudoun will take you from exciting sporting events to moonlit treetops to the rushing Potomac River.
PROFESSIONAL SPORTS
Modish Segra Field is home to the soccer stars of Loudoun United, feeder team to MLS high-flyers DC United, as well as Major League Rugby giants Old Glory DC, drawing rugby fans from across the region. The DC area’s female pro soccer team, Washington Spirit, also plays some home games at this Leesburg-based stadium. Skating and ice hockey fans can watch pro stars in action at ION International Training Center, a modern 90,000-square-foot, two-rink arena opened by former Romanian Olympic figure skater Luiz Taifas.
THRILLS ON THE WATER
Canoe, kayak or try a stand-up paddle board along Loudoun’s rivers and waterways. Paddle Nova offers rentals at Beaverdam Reservoir and for the Potomac River stretch between Kephart Bridge Landing and Algonkian Regional Park. Sterling’s Volcano Island Waterpark is a tropical-island themed summer adventure featuring water slides, splash pools, dumping buckets and more.
TREETOP ADVENTURES
On a hilltop in far northwest Loudoun, Harpers Ferry Adventure Center’s zipline includes a heart-in-mouth descent from a towering Sky Bridge. At their Aerial Adventure Park, there’s a ropes course with more than SO cables and bridges of varying degrees of difficulty. Empower Adventures at Salamander Resort & Spa has a dramatic treetops zipline best experienced at night on the Moonlight Zip Tour.
