DC’s signature springtime celebration, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, will host a combination of virtual and outdoor programming from March 20–April 11. PARKS & GARDENS TIDAL BASIN Magnificently located along the Potomac River, this area is a hub for blooming cherry blossom trees in the spring. You can also marvel at the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the FDR Memorial on the Tidal Basin Loop Trail. ROCK CREEK PARK DC’s 1,754-acre ribbon of green offers numerous trails for hiking and biking, picnic groves, horse stables, a planetarium, tennis courts, a golf course and a historic gristmill. HILLWOOD ESTATE, MUSEUM & GARDENS Marjorie Merriweather Post’s estate features a breathtaking outdoor oasis complete with a rose garden, a Japanese-style garden, a French parterre and a Lunar Lawn. HAUPT GARDEN Located outside of the majestic Smithsonian Castle, this beautifully crafted garden blends Victorian and Asian styles, with plenty of benches for relaxation and wondrous water features. DC MURAL MAGIC BLAGDEN ALLEY A popular destination for Black Americans after the Civil War, the Shaw neighborhood houses a mix of can’t-miss murals within this offshoot, including Aniekan Udofia’s Space is the Place and Cita Sadeli Chelove’s Windswept Mandala. Between M and N Streets, and 9th and 10th Streets BLACK LIVES MATTER PLAZA In June 2020, a portion of 16th Street was transformed into a city-commissioned mural emblazoned with the powerful civil rights message in yellow lettering. Just north of Lafayette Square MADSTEEZ’S GEORGE WASHINGTON NoMa displays a funkified mural of the nation’s first Commander-in-Chief by MADSTEEZ, who was commissioned by POW! WOW!, an international mural festival hosted in the neighborhood. 331 N Street NE CULTURE HOUSE Originally a Baptist Church built in 1886, this Victorian and Romanesque architectural gem was colorfully reimagined by artist HENSE in 2012.
