SPRING National Cherry Blossom Festival March 20–April 11 A beloved seasonal festival honoring the blooming of DC’s cherry blossom trees will feature an array of virtual and outdoor programming in 2021. Washington Nationals Baseball Typically begins in late March The Nationals, 2019 World Series champions, hope to welcome fans back into Nationals Park during the 2021 season. Georgetown GLOW April 2–June 27 & July 2–Sept. 26 Usually held during the holiday season, the 2021 edition will offer two sets of light-focused art installations viewable during the day and night in one of DC’s most historic neighborhoods. Passport DC Typically held May 1-31 Paying tribute to DC’s thriving international culture, this month-long festival usually features embassy open houses on consecutive Saturdays. The Washington Ballet: Swan Lake May 6-16 DC’s beloved ballet company will perform Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Eisenhower Theater. Memorial Day Concert & Parade May 30 & 31 A star-studded lineup honors the sacrifice of the U.S. military during the annual concert, broadcast on PBS, before a festive parade through DC the following day. SUMMER Funk Parade Typically held in May Groove and move at this year’s hybrid-style event celebrating U Street’s history, from its “Black Broadway” days to Ben’s Chili Bowl. Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle Held virtually for the month of June Some of the country’s finest barbecue comes to the nation’s capital accompanied by live jazz and blues performances. Smithsonian Folklife Festival Typically held from late June through early July The National Mall hosts a free festival in the lead-up to Independence Day. Smithsonian’s landmark event honors cultures from all over the world with performances, food and a vibrant marketplace. Fourth of July DC celebrates Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks show on the National Mall and the free A Capitol Fourth concert. Citi Open July 31–Aug. 8 One of the city’s finest sporting traditions is held at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center and draws top-tier international talent. Summer Restaurant Week Typically held in late August The culinary capital that is DC sees its restaurants offer discounted, prix-fixe meals throughout this special promotion. Expect in-person and take-out deals to be available. Awesome Con Aug. 20-22 DC’s Walter E. Washington Convention Center hosts a celebration of all things comic book related, from movies to TV shows to products. Creators and performers are often featured. DC Jazz Festival Planned for end of summer Each summer, venues across the city invite visitors of all ages to enjoy a diverse selection of national and international jazz masters.
