Start by hiking, off-road biking, and partaking in some paddle sports at Prettyboy Reservoir and Gunpowder Falls State Park. Then, in Butler, browse various antiques stores and specialty shops. Explore marble quarries, iron ore pits, and an archaeology site at Oregon Ridge Nature Center.

Sidetrack down Maryland Route 130 for a close-up view of historic country estates in the Green Spring Valley. In Lutherville, snap a photo of The Cloisters, a mansion built in 1932 based on late medieval European architecture.

Take a nature hike at Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, a beautiful complex of trails and gardens. Just down the road, Hampden is a hipster paradise with eclectic shops and bookstores, cocktail bars, dining from fine to funky, and two amazing annual festivals, Honfest and Hampdenfest.
