Every great road trip has a great soundtrack. Here’s one for your next Maryland adventure. We tried to keep it to ten, but there’s so much awesome in the Old Line State, we lost count. AND SHE WAS THE TALKING HEADS Talking Heads frontman David Byrne grew up in Maryland and wrote this tune as a love song of sorts to a girl he knew in Baltimore. HOT BOTTOM FEEDER CLUTCH The pride of Frederick, Clutch’s earthy rock sound is a must for any road trip, and this tune is an only-from- Maryland love song to our state crustacean, the delicious blue crab. CALLOWAY BOOGIE CAB CALLOWAY The boogie-woogie genius grew up in Baltimore, and while it’s hard not to pick “Minnie the Moocher” or “Jumpin Jive,” this deep cut is a driving song guaranteed to keep you groovy 24 hours a day. VACATION THE GO-GO’S Go-Go’s drummer Gina Shock got her beat from her hometown of Baltimore. And when you think about “Vacation,” well, you’ve got to think about Maryland. TEMPTATIONS TUPAC SHAKUR Most people think of the West Coast, but Tupac wrote his first lyrics as a kid at Baltimore’s School for the Arts. This extra-old-school groove from the legend is a perfect soundtrack to every Maryland landscape. BALTIMORE TORI AMOS OK, we admit this is a goofy pick from alternative legend Tori Amos, but this tribute she did to her hometown at just 16 is serious campy fun. BEAUTY OF THE ROAD FUTURE ISLANDS Mixing electronic beats and buttery beautiful lyrics, Future Islands makes their home in Maryland, and when we think of “The Beauty of the Road,” we think of a Maryland road trip. LIKE WOAH LOGIC The rapper from Rockville lays down perhaps his grooviest, smoothest track ever on this single. Word to the wise: The lyrics are for grown ups. GIVE A LITTLE MAGGIE ROGERS You can’t have a playlist without a little killer pop, and Eastern Shore rising star Maggie Rogers delivers in spades with “Give A Little.” WHEN YOU’RE SMILING BILLIE HOLIDAY Baltimore’s legendary Billie Holiday was graced with a voice that made any song she touched a thing of incredible beauty. We chose her take on “When You’re Smiling” as a good pairing to your Maryland getaway.
