TO PENNSYLVANIA Greetings, Happy Travelers! While we determine when it is safe to travel, there isn’t anything stopping us from dreaming and making plans for the future. I invite you to flip through the pages of this guide, circle and dog-ear your favorites, and make plans to explore Pennsylvania when the time is right. Here in Pennsylvania, we are blessed with an unparalleled blend of experiences, one-of-a-kind attractions, and communities to discover. History lovers, we’ve got you covered with the Declaration of Independence, the Industrial Revolution, the fight for civil rights, and amazing architecture. For those who seek to explore the great outdoors, the commonwealth offers 121 free state parks, 22 ski resorts, 80,000+ miles of streams, and more rail-trails than any other state. Our cities and towns are host to a diverse array of museums, visual and performing arts, cultural institutions, and breathtaking public parks. Regardless of one’s motivation to explore Pennsylvania, there’s one thing that unites us all—food. In this issue of the Happy Traveler, we showcase the rich culinary traditions the commonwealth has to offer. While we are best known for our beloved cheesesteaks and pierogis, we’ve chosen to highlight the lesser known culinary gems that are part of the fabric of Pennsylvania. Working with Chatham University, we developed four culinary trails that offer delicious delights for every palate and tell the story of how these foods are a part of our history and culture. The four trails showcase: apples, breads and grains, pickled and fermented foods, and charcuterie. In addition to tasty treats, we are spotlighting our historic hotels, urban parks, greatest gravel trails, RV road trips, and a multitude of experiences you just shouldn’t miss. We have included a list of virtual events and experiences, as well as a challenging game where you spot the differences between two almost identical images. I truly hope you enjoy this edition of the Happy Traveler. For even more inspiration, go to visitPA.com.
